The 175th FS is the group's operational unit and has flown the F-16C/D since August 1991. The unit was activated as the 175th Fighter Squadron in September 1946 with P-51Ds. The squadron was mobilized from March 1951 to November 1952 and was redesignated 175th FIS. The unit converted to the F-94A in mid-1954, and the F-94C in 1956, with the F-89D operated from 1958 until 1960 when the F-102A entered service. The squadron joined the 114th FIG, and became the 175th TFS when it converted to the F-100D in May 1970. The A-7D was flown from 1977 until late 1991 when conversion to the F-16C commenced.
